07/26: New calendar feature

Added a new calendar to the website. My thought was that we could utilize it instead of calling around to be sure that no special events are scheduled if you plan to go on up.

Google Calendar

Due to the small size of the cabin (one family or couple) this could help resolve some possible conflicts.

Contact me to get the username, password, and "how to" on adding events to the calendar. The calendar can be viewed from this site by using the 'Calendar' link at the top of the page. While it is viewable for all, adding to it requires logging into Google Calendar and making edits there. Additions and changes will be reflected immediately (after refreshing page) in the calendar page on the site.

01/12: Weekend of June 20-21 2009

Bob and Ruth are planning an outing with Bob's family from all over. They are expecting anywhere from 20 to 30 people and would like everyone to be aware that this would not be a good time to schedule an outing.

Have a blast!

06/24: Be bear aware

According to all reports there are some fearless bears roaming around the Chama land. Suggestions are to take bear mace or protection with you.

Do not leave food out in the open and certainly not out overnight.

The bear has been seen various times including during the day when people are out and around the cabin. We have seen him in the distance this year and others have had a closer look. The one that Sean and I saw this past weekend was BIG and not the same size as the one seen last year.

10/10: Elk Hunting Gurus!

Two successful hunts in a three week span! WOW!

Great job to both Andy and Adrian!

Andy took a HUGE elk in Chama on Saturday evening October 7th, 2006. With some patience, luck, a perfectly placed shot, and some great elk calling by Adrian, Andy was able to have his pick of many elk. Being very quiet, and very cold, we watched as the herd filled the meadow and Andy leveled his sights on his first elk.

Andy

Adrian and Sean took a trip south in search of a Bull elk. The trip was successful as Adrain took his first elk as well.

Adrian

Both Andy and Adrian used the same lucky gun, a Ruger 300 Win Mag, to harvest their first.

06/15: June 2006

A quick trip up to Chama this past weekend. Everything looks great inside and out. Thanks to Bob and Ruth!

Took a couple really good sized trout and fishing was really on in the evenings.

10/15: October 8th Elk Hunting Trip

For the second year in a row Sean and Adrian have "caught" an Elk. Cow calling from a makeshift blind located in the Y that leads to the cabin and the upper lakes Sean and Adrian have done it again. A perfect combination of low and high calls brought in a 5x4 bull elk at about 9:35am on Sunday morning. The hunt began on Saturday night and quite a few "conversations" with area elk, but nothing presented itself and the evening turned out be uneventful. We arrived the next morning at day break to find a couple of elk in the meadow, but they quickly vanished as we scrambled to hide. The morning was rainy and the blind provided no relief as a downpour began and we hurried up to the cabin. After a couple of hours in the cabin the rain subsided and as we ventured back down to the blind Sean gave a loud bugle that was immediately responded to by a close sounding bull. We quitely positioned ourselves in the blind and waited. Adrian and Sean continued to call and get responses. We thought it was going to be just another game of back and forth. Amazingly after only a few minutes there was a definite sound of breaking branches coming our way. We all watched, and Sean prepared, as we heard a bull elk bugle directly across from us at the tree line. This bugle was VERY loud and we knew this elk was close. I quickly prepared the video camera, but the elk was fast and came running into the meadow eagerly looking for the cow elk that Adrian was able to perfectly mimic. From this point everything happened rapidly. Sean lowered his rifle and peered through his scope to verify that the elk was "legal" and then waited for a opportunity. It came quickly when the elk turned broadside as Adrian continue his perfect cow calling. The shot was dead on and there was no doubt that our hunt was soon to be over. The elk was hit and ran. Adrian cow called and the elk stopped in his tracks. Another shot was necessary to insure that an injured elk would not disappear into the woods and it was also as perfect as the first. The elk fell approximately 25 feet from that second shot and we were able to recover it with no issues or immense work. Great job guys! You must be doing something right!

09/02: RDOP contact

From Andy's email:
"If you plan to be at the cabin, you should call Trish Casados, who is the RDOP’s current property manager. Her landline telephone number is 756-2326, and her cell number is 756-4315. You might also be able to reach her by e-mail at ranchodelosopardo@yahoo.com, but I think it would be better to try calling her."
From Eric:
There has been some errors with the calendar function lately. I am working on that and it will be corrected soon. Just keep checking :-)

08/08: Weekend 08/06/2005

Great fishing, but it rained most of the day. Caught (and released) many fish. Moss is bad and makes shore fishing hard. Sean took out the boat and the fishing was nice out there. Shore that borders the mountain had less moss and was good fishing. Adrian caught the most and was doing well all day.
